Widely known as one of Europe's foremost experts in diagnosing and treating Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), Adam Chwiesko, MD, PhD, earned his degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the Medical University of Bialystok in 2001. His professional journey has been marked by an unwavering dedication to advancing medical science and patient care.
Over twelve years, he served as a resident, junior and senior assistant in the Department of Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine at the Medical University of Bialystok. Throughout that time, he earned a PhD in medical sciences and underwent comprehensive specialization training in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
An early advocate for cutting-edge diagnostics, he was among the first Polish doctors to complete the Esophageal Function Testing & Ambulatory Manometry/pH Impedance Course at the prestigious Sandhill Scientific training center in Denver, USA. Under the mentorship of the distinguished gastroenterologist, Professor Donald Castell (h-index: 95), a global authority in functional GERD diagnostics, he acquired outstanding expertise in applying this diagnostic procedure.
Continuing his pursuit of excellence, in 2019, Dr Chwiesko was the sole Polish participant in specialized training offered by the American Foundation for Research and Education in Esophageal and Foregut Disease, led by luminaries, such as Professor Castell and Professor Tom DeMeester – the inventor of the DeMeester score and a leading figure in antireflux surgery (h-index: 106).
Beyond his clinical achievements, Dr Chwiesko actively contributes to the global medical community. He has authored publications in renowned international journals and is an avid participant in medical symposia, both in Poland and abroad. His commitment extends to nurturing interdisciplinary collaboration. He played an instrumental role in founding the American Foregut Society and later contributed to the establishment of the European Foregut Society, remaining the only representative of Poland in these respected organizations.
